Aiyoh! My Old Petrol SOP is "K.O." Already! 😭 (The Cash-Payer's Rant)
I feel I must share this because I cannot be the only one who is so leceh (troubled) by the new BUDI95 petrol SOP!
For years, my routine was simple, right?
- Go to the counter.
- Say “Pump 5, full tank, this is my deposit” and pass RM100 cash 💵.
- Go pump my car until the nozzle clicks.
- Go back to the counter, tell them my pump number again.
- Collect my balance (my change!) and tap my loyalty card.
- Done. Simple. ✅
Now? This SOP is GONE. Finished. 😵
This new BUDI95 system has created a massive pain point for cash payers. My old, efficient “deposit” method is now impossible.
Here is the new frustrating SOP I just experienced:
1. The “Must Pay First” Problem I cannot pump first anymore. I must go to the counter before I even touch the nozzle. This means if there’s a queue, I have to wait just to start the process.
2. The “Show IC” Hassle At the counter, I can’t just pay. I must take out my wallet, find my MyKad 💳, and pass it to the cashier for them to verify. This is an extra step every single time. What if I’m in a hurry?
3. The BIGGEST Pain Point: The “Must Guess” Problem! This is the worst part. The cashier will ask: “You want to buy how much?“
I cannot say “full tank” anymore. 🙅♂️
I must tell them the EXACT amount in Ringgit (RM) or Litres (L) before I pump. How am I supposed to know exactly how much petrol my car needs to be full? RM78? RM81.50?
So now, I have to guess (e.g., “RM80”), pay for it, and then go and pump. If my tank is actually full at RM77, what happens? It’s so much extra trouble.
My simple, “pump-full-tank-and-get-change” SOP is dead. ⚰️
For those of us who have used cash our whole lives, this is a major, major hassle. It feels like the new system is forcing everyone to use apps, even if we don’t want to.
Is anyone else feeling this frustration? Let me know! 👇
The Ultimate Guide: Ranking the 5 Easiest Ways to Pump a "Full Tank" of Subsidised RON 95! 🏆
I analysed all 5 major petrol stations for the BEST all-digital, no-MyKad, full-tank method. Here’s my ranking so you know exactly where to go for the most senang (easy) experience! ⛽️📱
Aiyoh, so many new rules for this BUDI95 subsidy, right? 🤯
My main goal was to find the easiest SOP. For me, that means:
- NO queuing at the counter. 🙅♂️
- NO slotting my MyKad into the pump every single time. 💳
- I MUST be able to pump a “Full Tank” easily.
After checking all five, I can confirm that only 2 stations are the clear champions for a 100% digital, pay-from-your-car experience. Here is my ranking!
🌟 The 2 Champions (100% Digital & No MyKad Needed)
These two are the best! You just do a one-time verification in the app, and you are set forever.
1. PETRONAS 💚
- Winning App: Setel App
- The SOP:
- Verify your account one-time inside the Setel app using eKYC (scan MyKad + selfie 🤳).
- At the station, just stay in your car. Open Setel.
- Select your pump number and choose “Pump Full Tank” or any amount.
- The app automatically verifies your BUDI95 subsidy. You pay in the app.
- Get out and pump! ⛽️
- My Verdict: This is the easiest, most seamless experience. It just works. 10/10! ✨
2. Caltex ❤️
- Winning App: CaltexGO App (linked with TNG eWallet)
- The SOP:
- First, make sure your Touch ‘n Go eWallet is verified (one-time eKYC).
- Open the CaltexGO app and link it to your verified TNG eWallet account.
- At the station, stay in your car. Open CaltexGO.
- Select your pump, enter your “Full Tank” amount (e.g., pre-authorise RM100), and pay.
- The app verifies your subsidy via TNG, and you just get out and pump.
-
My Verdict: Also fantastic! Just one extra step to link TNG, but after that, it’s just as easy as Setel. 9.5/10! 👍
⚠️ The "Still Need MyKad / Must Walk" Group
This is where it gets tricky. Based on my rules (all-digital, no MyKad at the pump, and full tank), these 3 stations don’t make the cut.
3. Shell 🟡
-
The Problem: The “Shell App” does not support BUDI95 subsidy payments (they say it’s coming “in the future”).
-
Your ONLY Options:
-
Pay at Pump: You MUST insert your physical MyKad every single time after tapping your credit card. (Fails my “no MyKad” rule 👎).
-
Pay at Counter (Digital): You can use the TNG eWallet app (BUDI95 feature) to pre-pay. BUT, you still MUST walk to the counter to get your QR code scanned. (Fails my “stay in car” rule 🚶♂️).
-
4. Petron 🔵
-
The Problem: Same as Shell. The “Petron Mobile” app is only for points, not for BUDI95 payment.
-
Your ONLY Options:
-
Pay at Pump: You MUST insert your physical MyKad every single time after tapping your credit card. 👎
-
Pay at Counter (Digital): Use the TNG eWallet app and walk to the counter to scan your QR code. 🚶♂️
-
5. BHPetrol 🟠
-
The Problem: Exactly the same. The “BHPetrol eCard” app does not support BUDI95 payment.
-
Your ONLY Options:
-
Pay at Pump: You MUST insert your physical MyKad every single time after tapping your credit card. 👎
-
Pay at Counter (Digital): Use the TNG eWallet app and walk to the counter to scan your QR code. 🚶♂️
-
Final Conclusion
So, there you have it!
If your priority is the easiest, 100% digital, full-tank experience from your car, the clear winners are PETRONAS (Setel) and CALTEX (CaltexGO).
For the other three, you have to choose: either use your physical MyKad at the pump every time, or use the TNG app and walk to the counter.
Hope this analysis helps you! Happy (and easy) pumping, everyone! 🚗💨
